Divine Justice Satisfied 12

The divine wrath due to human sin was poured out on the Lord Jesus Christ.  The offended Judge Himself suffered for the offenses against His own Law.  The Lawgiver died for the lawbreakers.  The Gospel of Substitution takes the sinful man and puts Another in His place who is able to bear his sins, and puts the ungodly man into the place of the Innocent One.  Substitution puts the guilty sinner into the Sinless Savior's place, and God looks upon the Savior as if He had been sinner, and then upon the sinner as if he had been the perfect One.  There must be a transference.  Christ Jesus and the sinner must change places.

Jesus has made a full recompense to divine justice on our behalf; there is nothing for us helpless and hopeless sinners to do but to trust to what Jesus has already finished with His Blood.  If you neglect God's mercy in Christ, divine justice will smite you.  Cease arguing and submit to the death sentence against you.  You are a mass of guilt and misery, you need God's divine pity and mercy.  You have no rights or claims, you are a rebel through and through, lost and utterly undone before the bar of divine justice.  Flee from divine justice and hide yourself in the bloody wounds of the Lamb of God.  Your religious antics will not help you at all.  Without Christ you must answer to God's unswerving justice all by yourself.

Since Jesus was both a Jewish man and God Incarnate, He could in just a few hours of time offer unto God a vindication for His justice which sinners in Hell would have to offer forever.  Only bring the bleeding Savior with you before God's bar of divine justice, and your conscience will be quietened.  God's severity toward sin was shown in full when Jesus bore our sins and suffered for them at the Cross.  Look now to Calvary's Lamb where sin was punished, the Law was honored, where sins are freely forgiven, and where souls are set free from sin.  God's avenging divine justice spent itself on the matchless Lamb of God.  The Law's most rigorous demands were met by Jesus who was made a curse for us.  Free mercy flows from Jesus' Atoning Blood.  Trust to the greatness of Jesus' person, the fulness of His grace, the innocence of His blood, the perfection of His Righteousness.  Turn from your sin-loving ways, and make Jesus' blood your soul's trust and confidence here and now.
