“It is finished!” Yes, indeed, Finished every jot,
Sinner, this is all you need, Tell me, is it not?
Weary, working, plodding one, Why toil you so?
Cease your doing, all was done - Long, long ago.
Till to Jesus’ work you cling, by a simple faith,
“Doing” is a deadly thing,
“Doing” ends in death.
Cast your deadly doing down, down at Jesus’ feet,
Stand in Him, in Him alone, gloriously complete.
Nothing but the blood of Jesus has in it the slightest saving-power. Oh! if you are trusting in your baptism, your confirmation, or your Lord's Supper, you are trusting in a damnable lie. Nothing but faith in the Blood of Jesus can save such a sinner like you. I care not how right the ordinance, or how true the form, or how scriptural the practice; it is all religious vanity, if you rely in it for the forgiveness of any of your sins. Your sins against God are innumerable. The ordinances have their place, but they cannot help save from Sin. There is not the slightest speck of saving-power anywhere but in the blood of Jesus. That atoning blood has the only power to save, and anything else that you rely upon shall be a refuge of lies. Jesus is the Rock, and His cross-work is Perfect; but all other things are delusional daydreams; they will be swept away in the day when God shall come to try our works of what sort they are. The Precious Blood stands out by itself as the only Rock of Salvation.
This may be the first time you have heard the Gospel, and perhaps the last. I beseech you in Christ's stead, that you receive His Atonement, and may the Spirit of God lead you to do so in sincerity and truth! If you reject Christ's finished work, you are like a person who throws away the only life preserver that can keep him alive in an angry sea. You put from you the only medicine under Heaven that can heal your sin-sick soul, for I am giving you the only Gospel in the whole wide world! If any man preaches to you any other Gospel, let him be accursed! You must believe in Jesus alone, and if you reject Him, you are lost, for there are no other ways of salvation for your soul.
The pride of human nature and self-righteousness clings to salvation by its own merits. Every man is born a Pharisee. Self-confidence and self-esteem is in his bone marrow. You are saved not through your good works, not through anything that you can DO! Not by the merit of anything which you FEEL or PERFORM, or PROMISE to perform, but by GRACE, by the free favor of God. The channel of that grace is the Lord Jesus Christ who loved, and lived, and bled, and died, and rose again from the dead, and lives forevermore for your Salvation. For by grace are ye saved through faith, and that not of yourselves: it is the Gift of God: not of works, lest ANY man should BOAST. Sin has ruined every man, and he desperately needs Christ's free redemption and the Holy Spirit's miraculous regeneration.
Please submit to the Righteousness of God and give up trying to work your way to Heaven: self-salvation is a hopeless and futile effort. You must leave off your doings altogether, in order to be saved from sin's penalty and power. There must be a denial of all your vain doings. You must get Christ first, and then you may do as much as you like. But you must not ever trust in any of your doings, see. Your main business now is to lift up your heart to God, and send out an SOS (distress signal) to Jesus. *Romans 10:13* See the Savior hanging on the Cross in your place, turn your eye to Him, and say, "Lord Jesus, I trust to You, for I have nothing else to trust to, and I rely on You; sink or swim, my Savior, I only trust only to You. Lord Jesus, I am guilty as can be, I am vile and evil, but Thy Great Salvation is free; so in your all-abounding grace, Dear Lord, please remember and save me. No more, O God, I boast no more, of all the good I have done; I quit the hopes I held before, and trust only to Your Son's blood and merits."
None but Jesus, None but Jesus,
can do helpless sinners good.
Still men will boast in what they can do, and mistake the path to Heaven to be a road paved by their own merits, and not a way that is sprinkled by the blood of the Atonement of Jesus Christ. God must punish your sins, but He has laid the punishment on Christ, and whosoever believes in Christ is forgiven freely and instantly for Jesus' sake. The Lord Jesus Christ is the Substitute for sinners, and you must simply trust in Him in order to be saved. You reject the Gospel at your own peril. God is ready to forgive you. Just one look to Jesus' blood that flowed from the Cross, and your sins will disappear and be blotted out forever and ever. Your conscience is faithful, it will continue to warn and condemn you until you trust in the Blood of Jesus alone.
Christ Jesus’ Blood redeems us from the curse (condemnation) of the Law. Christ has paid the ransom price in full with His own life’s blood. The Law’s curse, penalty and dread are all vanquished in His Blood. Jesus is the Passover Lamb that was slain to shield us from the wrath of God’s judgment. Christ is the end of the law for Righteousness; that is, our righteousness is finished, and we are complete in Jesus. Our High Priest has gone within the veil, the blood has been sprinkled on the Mercy Seat of God. Though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow. Though they are red like crimson, they shall be as wool. God said, “When I see My Blood, I will pass over you.” Sinner friend, you need to come to the Cross at once for Shelter. Sit down, rest, now, beneath the shadow of the Cross and look to Jesus alone for all your Salvation. Come to the Cross and find the free forgiveness of sins low at the feet of Jesus.
If you die with Jesus’ blood on your hands, you will suffer Vengeance from God. You need the Blood applied to your heart. Water baptism can’t reach to the heart of a sinful man. Come to Jesus for repentance, come to Him for a broken heart, come to be washed clean from your inward filthiness. The Blood of Christ is the only heart changer and cleanser, period.
You may think you must feel something, or pray a certain way, but there is nothing for you to DO, Jesus did it all long, long ago – all your sins were laid on His back, and He suffered what you ought to have suffered. He was wounded for our transgressions [violations of God’s law]. You have crossed the bounds of God's Law innumerable times throughout your life. If I were about to die and only had a few words to say to you, I would say, “Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners.” "Faith in His Blood" Eternal Life streams only from the veins and heart of Jesus in His Precious Blood. This Blood is to be had, it can be obtained by Faith, Yes it is Free, free to every soul that believes in JESUS alone for eternal life. Your righteousness is no good at all. Turn your eyes to the full BLOOD AT-ONE-MENT made by God manifest in the flesh, and take His Precious Blood to be your only Hope.
