A HIGH look, and a proud heart, and the plowing of the wicked, is SIN. Every man should not think of himself more HIGHLY than he ought to think; but he should think soberly. Mind not HIGH things, but condescend to men of low estate. Be not wise in your own conceits. Casting down imaginations, and every HIGH thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in HIGH places. Be not HIGHminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy. In the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, traitors, heady, HIGHminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God.
The lofty looks of man shall be humbled, and the haughtiness of men shall be bowed down, and the Lord alone shall be exalted in that day. There is a generation, O how lofty are their eyes! and their eyelids are lifted up. For the day of the Lord of hosts shall be upon every one that is proud and lofty, and upon every one that is lifted up; and he shall be brought low. God's eyes are upon the haughty, that He may bring them down. Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall. Before destruction the heart of man is haughty, and before honour is humility.
Though the Lord be high, yet hath he respect unto the LOWLY: but the proud he knoweth afar off. Surely the LORD scorneth the scorners [smart alecks]: but He giveth grace unto the LOWLY. When pride cometh, then cometh shame: but with the LOWLY is wisdom. Better it is to be of an humble spirit with the LOWLY, than to divide the spoil with the proud. Jesus said, Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and LOWLY in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. With all LOWLIness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love. Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in LOWLIness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves.
