An atheist may be proud of his prosperity, be pleased with himself, and planning to enjoy retirement - but he is unprepared to die. There's an appointed time to every man upon earth. Any moment, any day, your appointment with death will come.
There's just one reason why any man rejects Jesus Christ - because he loves his sins. That is the whole story. They may give many other excuses, but John 3:19 is still the truth. Jesus didn't say, "You ought to be born again." Jesus said, "Ye MUST be born again." There is no other choice; there is no other way. Jesus didn't say, "I am a way." Jesus said, "I am THE way." Jesus used the definite article. Jesus always tells the Truth, and men always lie. You must first believe that GOD IS (Hebrews 11:6). You must be saved by Jesus Christ Himself (Acts 4:12). You must be saved through the name of JESUS. If you shun Jesus Christ, you will eventually go to Hell. This is an inevitable, inescapable choice you must make. Jesus shed His precious blood for you, and made the Atonement for your human sin.
Your greatest need is the New Birth - the infusion of divine life by the Holy Ghost into the human soul, the implantation of the divine nature into the human heart making a man a son of God. The New Birth is the regenerating work of the Holy Spirit alone in the human soul, applying the precious blood of Christ and cleansing us from the guilt of sin. Yes, you are a sinful child of wrath by nature, you are a sinner by choice and by practice, God is holy and you are unholy, But you must be born again for one reason alone - because Jesus said so (John 3:7). That settles it. There is no room for argument. Jesus must do all the saving, your merits are all useless, for you have no merits - the Bible says you're ungodly (Romans 5:6). A lost man has never listened to a word that God has says. An unsaved man has never had a spiritual bath, in other words, he stinks in the nostrils of God.
If you go to Hell after reading this, your blood is on your own hands. You must come face to face with your sins, do not try to dodge the real issue. Do not try to hide your many sins. Do not try to excuse or justify yourself, for you cannot. *Repent* Face the main issue that you are a lost sinner. You are without God and without hope in the world. As a Christ rejector, you are living under the wrath of God (John 3:36), and are in open rebellion against God (Colossians 1:21). You are following your father the Devil (John 8:44), instead of your Crucified Creator (II Corinthians 5:19-21). There's nothing you can do to help save yourself, so just give up. Repent of your self-righteousness and sinful thoughts. Turn your sin-sick soul over to Jesus Christ (God manifest in the flesh), and receive Him into your innermost being right now. Turn away from your unbelief and look to Christ's Atoning Blood by simple childlike faith (Luke 18:17).
Jesus died to pay your sin debt (I Peter 2:24). Receive Christ Himself now - Believe on His Name - That is what brings the New Birth to the human soul (See John 1:12). Nothing else will. You must say, "I will" to Jesus Christ. Jesus has already said, "He will." There must be a union of your soul with Christ Himself. From the depths of your heart, you must look to Jesus Christ and trust HIM alone. Repent now, and say your "I will" to Christ Jesus. Turn away from your Christ rejection (unbelief), and turn by Faith to HIM, and say, "LORD JESUS, I will."
