But the best you have done will not do the job. Without the shedding of Blood, there is no remission (forgiveness of sins). Poor sinner, you cannot be saved by any of your merits, works, penance, preparation, or feelings. Jesus alone must save you as a work of gratis mercy, not because you deserve it.

To a thirsty man, the sound of a bubbling fountain is music. To a hungry man, the smell of a home cooked meal makes his mouth water. And to a convicted heart and guilty soul, free pardon is the best news he has ever heard.
