Choose the Right Doctor

There may come a time when you have heart trouble, and you’ll need to have open-heart surgery. At that time, you will call your friends and family and ask for advice about ‘choosing the right doctor’ to complete your operation. You may travel for many miles to ensure you have the best doctor possible to complete your surgery. There are many heart problems, but heart blockages and heart attacks are feared more than anything. This fear causes many people to change their diet, exercise, and take many medications to prevent heart attacks. But most of the time heart attacks cannot be prevented, because the damage to the heart's arteries is already done.

Deep inside every person there is a ‘spiritual heart’ that cannot be touched by human hands. This is a story about a man with a bad ‘spiritual heart’ that needs major surgery. He feels sharp pains in his spiritual heart all throughout his life. The symptoms leading up to his heart attack show up in his eyes (looking with lust), hands (stealing), feet (going places he shouldn’t), tongue (lying, cursing, gossip, slander), ears (listening to dirty jokes, worldly music). He often has small heart attacks (sin problems, sinful habits and addictions), but he just ignores them, and doesn’t go to the Doctor for help. He says to himself: “If I go down to that doctor, he’ll give me some bad news I don’t want to hear. I’ll be OK without Him. I have plenty of time.”

But the heart pains (sins) keep coming on, and he asks his good neighbor what doctor he went to for his ‘sin trouble’. His neighbor sends him down to see Dr. Law (The Ten Commandments). He goes into Dr. Law’s office and Dr. Law does blood work, X-rays, and a head-to-toe examination on him. Dr. Law shows him his lying, stealing, gossip, evil thoughts, Christ-rejection, lust, anger, hatred, selfishness, bad attitude, taking God’s name in vain, addictions, greed, and many other problems. Dr. Law sits him down and gives him the bad news he was dreading – “You will need a heart transplant.” Dr. Law convinces him of his condition, but he gets irate and says, “I’ll never let you take my heart out,” and storms out of the office. He insanely clings to his sins and self-righteousness.

Time goes on, and he has another awful heart pain, but this time he decides to go to Dr. Religion for help. Dr. Religion brings him into his office, pats him on the back, and tries to make him feel better. Then, he sends him down the hall to some of his fellow associates for help. The first one is Dr. Not-So-Bad, and he tries to convince him that he’s not such a bad person, and that it's not healthy for him to that way. Dr. Religion then sends him to Dr. Do-Better, and he tells him to try to do better, turn over a new leaf, and he’ll be just fine, but that advice doesn’t seem to help his aching heart at all. And then he tries Dr. False-peace, Dr. Good-enough, Dr. Programs and Dr. I’ll-Try, but his heart pain continues and frightens him. He is troubled inside and fears death on a daily basis.  Be wise - visit the Great Physician and let Him give you a shot of His Faith, let Him infuse with Grace and Wisdom from on high.

He gets more upset, and goes back into Dr. Religion’s office and the doctor sends him way down the hall to Dr. I-Join. Dr. I-Join recommends that he join a church, get baptized, and take a dose of good works each week at church. And, he feels better for a while, and he tells all his friends at work how good he’s ‘feeling’ about himself. But then something goes wrong again with his heart; his pain starts to grow worse and worse. This troubles him, he goes back to Dr. Religion and cusses him out, throws up his hands, quits church, because it isn’t really helping him at all inside. He’s mad because he has wasted so much of his time, money, and effort on Dr. Religion and his quacks. Dr. Religion and his staff just couldn’t provide him a cure for sin problem. Dr. Religion deceived him, took his money, and only made his heart pain (sin) grow worse.

He says, "I am going take this matter into my own hands." And off he goes to see Dr. Ceremony, and the doctor tell him, "You must attend to forms, rules and convictions." But all these vain efforts yield no lasting ease to his guilt and misery.  Then he reads that Dr. Morality and Dr. Civility have a large practice, so he pays them a visit; and they instruct him to be good as he can in outward character, to stop this and start that, but it does not help him at all inwardly, or help deliver him from his filthy thoughts, evil desires, love for sin, self-serving pursuits, impure cravings, vile imaginations, selfish motives and worldly ambitions.  He searches the yellow pages, and goes to see Dr. Deny-Yourself, and he tells him to stop drinking and quit smoking, but he never tells him to deny his self-righteousness, and submit to Dr. Grace.  He tries many, many human remedies for his sins, but sin still controls him, guilt clings to his mind, and his heart remains hard.

Then one day, his good neighbor that sent him to Dr. Law at the beginning, stops by, and he urges him again to go and see Dr. Law again before it’s everlasting too late. His pride and self-righteousness says, “No! I’ll never go down there again to that old mean Dr. Law; he only has bad news for me, and I hate him.” But one day, a few weeks later, he has a major heart attack and is ‘sick unto death’, and in despair, he calls 911, and asks the ambulance to rush him to Dr. Law’s office. For by the law is the knowledge of sin. The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul.  JESUS came not to call the righteous, but sinners to Repentance.

Dr. Law X-rays him again and gives him the same diagnosis – Sin and Death. Then Dr. Law tells him he needs a heart transplant (The New Birth), and directs him across the hall to Dr. Grace’s office for the divine operation. He finally humbles himself, and yields to Dr. Law, and allows Dr. Grace to take the scalpel of the word of God (Hebrews 4:12) and remove his old heart and give him a brand new heart. After the delicate surgery, the Lord Jesus Christ (Dr. Grace) comes into his new heart, cleans him up, and lives there forever.

Dear friend, how about you? Are you having heart pains because of your sins? The ‘greatest sin’ you can ever commit is to Reject or Neglect Christ. You need Jesus’ Righteousness - your self-righteousness will never save you. Please ‘Choose the Right Doctor’, the Lord Jesus Christ Himself, to care of your sin problem. The Ten Commandments (Dr. Law) will show you the sins of your heart. If you humble yourself, and call on JESUS (Dr. Grace), He will operate, and give you a new heart and live there forever. JESUS said, “They that are whole need not a physician, but they that are sick.”

Are you sick of your sin yet?  You must get ‘sick’ of your sin, and then you'll repent, and trust the Blood and Righteousness of JESUS CHRIST for eternal salvation. For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.  Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners. There is nothing asked of you, only that you will be nothing, and let Christ do everything for your lost soul. All a sinner has to offer God is misery, want, ruin, emptiness, inability, and spiritual death. Take Christ as your Everything, and be nothing yourself. Christ Jesus freely offers every sinner full and free pardon through faith in His Precious Blood. Whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord Jesus Christ shall be saved, that is, delivered from the danger and dominion of sin. Ye must be born again. Please don’t turn JESUS away today - Trust Him before it’s too late!
