Throw down your self-will, and like a little baby that lies in its mother's arms, be conscious that your strength is not in yourself, but in Christ's dear arms which hold you up. Fall into the arms of Christ; that is faith. Just give up your doing, give up depending upon anything that you are, or do, or ever hope to be, and depend upon the perfect merits, finished work, and precious blood of Jesus Christ. If you do this, you are saved on the spot. Anything of your own doing will spoil it all. Your reliance must be on nothing but Christ Jesus Himself. Look only to HIM for everything. Look to the Savior’s wounds, blood, and merits. Jesus was punished for human sin. God’s wrath spent itself on Christ instead of spending itself on me. Believe in Jesus, Trust in Him to save you. Christ Himself is all my salvation; I depend alone on Him. Trust in the Incarnate God who shed His blood for sinners on Calvary's Cross.
“Give up!” that is, give up yourself to the living God, Jesus Christ, whatever His will may be. If it be His will that you be sick, that you be poor, that you suffer, that you die, give everything up, and say, “Thy will be done. I resign all to thee, my Lord and my God.” Whatsoever Jesus says unto you, do it. Give up unreservedly, and make no provision for the flesh. Give up self-trust. Let Christ's will be your will. Give up everything that opposes and grieves Christ. Yield entirely to HIM; and if you have any substance, talent, or opportunity in this world, “Give all up for His cause.” Give up your own wishes to please Jesus. Commit yourselves wholly to God, give up all your talents and abilities to His service, work for Him with all your heart in love. Begin with resignation to the Gospel, go on to obedience to His will, and finish with consecration.
