Memorial Day is the most solemn American holiday. A day to remember the Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Marines who made the ultimate sacrifice while defending our nation and the freedom we still enjoy today. Memorial Day is the day we set aside as a nation to remember and give thanks for the valor of fallen heroes. Remember and be thankful today: someone had to bleed and die to preserve the freedoms you enjoy here in the U.S.A.
The U.S. Civil War claimed more lives that any other conflict in U.S. history, which required the establishment of of our nation's first national cemeteries. At the end of the Civil War, mourning families began placing flags and flowers on the graves of fallen soldiers.
The town of Waterloo, NY is where Memorial Day really began. On May 5, 1866, the citizens of Waterloo closed their shops and businesses to decorate the graves of the men killed during the Civil War. General John A. Logan called for a nationwide day of remembrance and started an effort to consolidate all the decoration services into one national holiday, designating May 30th as Decoration Day.
On the first national Decoration Day, May 30, 1868, five thousand war widows, orphans and other mourners gathered at Arlington National Ceremony and place flowers and ribbons on 20,000 graves of both Union and Confederate soldiers. Future U.S. presidents, Ulysses S. Grant and James Garfield also attended the ceremony. By the end of the century, Decoration Day had grown and was renamed Memorial Day.
America interred its first unknown soldier in Arlington National Cemetery on Armistice Day in 1921. On every Memorial Day, this soldier and other unknown soldiers are honored by a wreath-laying ceremony conducted by the President or Vice President. The unknown soldiers are reminders of all those brave Americans who never made it home from war. Memorial Day officially became a federal holiday in 1971, and Congress shifted it from May 30th to the fourth Monday in May.
One of the longest-standing traditions is the running of the Indianapolis 500, an auto race which has been held in conjunction with Memorial Day since 1911. It runs on the Sunday preceding the Memorial Day holiday.
On Memorial Day the flag of the United States is raised briskly to the top of the staff and then solemnly lowered to the half-staff position, where it remains only until noon. It is then raised to full-staff for the remainder of the day. The half-staff position remembers that more than one million men and women who gave their lives in service of their country. At noon their memory is raised by the living, who resolve not to let their sacrifice be in vain, but to rise up in their stead and continue the fight for liberty and justice for all.
During one of President Reagan's Memorial Day speeches, he said this, "And we owe them something, those boys. We owe them first a promise: That just as they did not forget their missing comrades, neither, ever, will we. And there are other promises. We must always remember that peace is a fragile thing that needs constant vigilance. We owe them a promise to look at the world with a steady gaze and, perhaps, a resigned toughness, knowing that we have adversaries in the world and challenges and the only way to meet them and maintain the peace is by staying strong."
Remember Army 2d Lt Audie Leon Murphy who won the Congressional Medal of Honor. He was born to poor sharecroppers in Kingston, TX. His father was a drunk, and his mother was the pianist at a Baptist church. Their home was an old railroad box car with no electricity or bathroom. At age five, he was working in the fields. He didn't start school until he was nine and quit after the fifth grade. By the age of 16, his mother was dead, and his father had left him. He never had a bicycle or played baseball.
In 1941, he tried to join the Marine Corps, but they turned 5 foot, 5 inch, 112 pound fair-faced boy down, because he was too small. Dejected, he decided to enter the Army who accepted him. They called him "Baby", because he didn't even shave yet. In riflery, he only scored "Marksman," below "Sharpshooter" and "Expert." The Army wanted to make him a clerk, but he forced his was into the infantry and ended up fighting the Germans in Europe.
During WWII in Holtzwihr, France on the cold day of January 26, 1945, a surprise German counterattack threatened to overrun his Company B. As his fellow-soldiers began to drop back, "Baby" Murphy rushed to a knocked-out American tank, manned the .50 caliber machine gun and opened fire on the Germans. He was surrounded by the enemy; the tank he was fighting from was in flames and in danger of exploding any moment. He singlehandedly broke the German attack. Moments after he climbed down from the tank it blew up behind him. For that gallantry he earned the Congressional Medal of Honor. He went on to win 36 other medals for gallantry which made him the most decorated soldier in U.S. Army history.
On the top of that disabled tank, he stopped the enemy's advance, he saves the lives of many Americans, he rallied his men, and all of it singlehandedly. When he radioed for artillery support and was asked how close the enemy was to his position, he said, “Wait a minute and I’ll let you speak to them.” When asked after the war why he had seized the machine gun and took on an entire company of German infantry, he simply replied, "They were killing my friends."
The Normandy American Cemetery and Memorial is a World War II cemetery and memorial in Colleville-sur-Mer, Normandy, France, that honors American soldiers who died in Europe during World War II. The cemetery is located on a bluff overlooking Omaha Beach (one of the landing beaches of the Normandy Invasion) and the English Channel. It covers 172 acres, and contains the remains of 9,387 American military dead, most of whom were killed during the invasion of Normandy and ensuing military operations in World War II. The graves of Army Air Corps crews that were shot down over France as early as 1942 are also buried there. Never forget these brave Americans that buried on foreign soil. A picture of the Normandy American Cemetery and Memorial is shown below.
This year take time to remember those selfless Americans who died on the battlefield, at sea, and in the air for the freedoms you enjoy here in the United States of America, the land of the free and the home of the Brave.
* Civil War - Approximately 620,000 Americans died. The Union lost almost 365,000 troops and the Confederacy about 260,000. More than half of these deaths were caused by disease.
* World War I - 116,516 Americans died, more than half from disease.
* World War II - 405,399 Americans died.
* Korean War - 36,574 Americans died.
* Vietnam Conflict - 58,220 Americans died. More than 47,000 Americans were killed in action and nearly 11,000 died of other causes.
Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm - 148 U.S. battle deaths and 145 non-battle deaths.
* Operation Iraqi Freedom - 4,422 U.S. service members died.
* Operation New Dawn - 66 U.S. service members died.
* Operation Enduring Freedom - 2,372 U.S. service members have died as of May 2015.
Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die. But God commendeth His love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, being now justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him.

Your Day in Court
If you are ever convicted of a crime and have to go to court, here are some things you need to know: Before a person accused of a crime can be brought to trial, certain steps must be taken to establish that a crime has been committed and that there is reason to believe the accused person committed it. Although the sequence of steps may vary from state to state, most follow this outline.
Steps of Criminal Procedure:
* Complaint and Arrest: After the police investigate a crime, the prosecuting attorney files a written statement (called a complaint) with the court, describing the crime and naming the suspect; if a judge
decides there is sufficient evidence, he issues an arrest warrant. Upon arrest, the suspect is informed of his rights. (If a suspect is arrested at the scene of a crime, the complaint is filed afterward.
* Booking: At the police station, the suspect is searched, photographed, fingerprinted, allowed to contact a lawyer, and given a receipt for any personal property that is impounded. For a misdemeanor,
the suspect is usually released and assigned a date to appear in court. For a felony, he is usually jailed.
* Initial Court Appearance: At this hearing, the judge informs the suspect of the charges and his rights as a defendant. He also decides if the suspect should be released on bail or kept in custody. If charged with a misdemeanor, the suspect can enter a plea at this time; if accused of a felony, he cannot. The suspect's next court date is set.
* Preliminary Hearing: Some states use this hearing when a suspect is accused of a felony or arrested with a warrant for a misdemeanor. If the judge decides there is sufficient evidence to proceed, he forwards the case to a Grad Jury; if not, he releases the suspect.
* Grand Jury: At these proceedings, the grand jury decides if there is sufficient evidence for the accused to stand trial. If it votes "yes", an indictment (a court order) is issued requiring the suspect to stand trial; if not, the suspect is released.
* Arraignment: At this hearing, the judge reads the charges to the accused, who is again advised of his rights. The accused then enters his plea. If he pleads not guilty, a date is set for the trial. If he pleads guilty or is allowed to plead nolo contender (no contest), he waives his right to a trial, and a date is set for sentencing.
* Venue: Place selected where the jury will be gathered and the case tried.
* Pre-Trial Hearing: The judge meets with the prosecuting and defense attorney and reviews the issues of the case.
* Trial: The defendant stands trial before a jury or, if he waives that right, before a judge. Steps of the trial: Opening statements, Presentation of evidence and testimony of witnesses, closing arguments, jury's instructions, jury deliberations and verdict.
* Verdict: The judge or jury decides whether the defendant is "Guilty" or "Not guilty". If the verdict is "Not guilty", the defendant is released.
* Sentencing: The judge tells the defendant what his punishment will be. He may order him to pay a fine or serve a jail term, or he may have him released under the supervision of a probation officer.
You've just read the proceedings a criminal court case here in America. But there's coming a day, when every unsaved man and woman will stand in God's Court to be judged out of Law of God (10 commandments). The Books of the Law will be opened by the Judge - God Almighty Himself. The Book of your Life that has ALL your thoughts, words, and deeds will be opened. God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil. (Ecc 12:14) The Lamb's Book of Life will be opened. Is your name written in the Lamb's book of life? There will be "Hell" to pay in that court if you are not prepared. What will your be your plea in God's courtroom, Guilty or Not Guilty? The Bible says, "it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment. So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God."
You've sinned against God so many times. You've crossed the Line, and you can't go back. You are Guilty as Charged! You're in big trouble with the Judge of all the Earth. He's going to get down to the Truth concerning your entire private and public life, don't you worry. You can fool yourself, but you're not fooling God. Be not deceived, God is not mocked. You better believe judgment is coming. You've lived and wasted the life that God gave you here on Earth. You don't deserve to have lived here on Earth as long as you have. You think you deserve to live, but you deserve to die for the sins you have committed against God Almighty. The wages of sin is still Death. Your guilty soul needs some place to hide from the wrath to come. You have an appointment with God that you cannot escape. The subpoena of God is the Bible. God has a Complaint against you, it is the Bible. That's the main reason you don't like to read the Bible. The Holy Spirit and your conscience have Arrested you.
You have been booked, it is written in Heaven. Have you ever broken ever God's law? Have you ever violated your conscience? Have you ever sinned with knowledge of right and wrong? Please listen to your conscience. Have you ever lied or stolen something? If you have, that makes you a liar and a thief in the sight of God. Have you ever taken God's name in vain? Most people have. If you have, then you're a blasphemer. There is none righteous, no, not one. For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God. Have you ever looked at the opposite with lust? Then, that makes you an adulterer in heart. Jesus said, "Whosoever looketh on a woman to lust her hath committed adultery already with her in his heart." (Mt 5:28) Have you ever had sex outside marriage? That's fornication (Read I Cor 6:9-10,18; Eph 5:5) Have you always loved God will all your heart, soul, strength and mind; and put Him first in your life? Only one person ever did that perfectly: His name was Jesus Christ. Have you always loved your neighbor as yourself or have you been selfish and greedy? This is only a few of the 100's of commandments that God has commanded men to keep.
According to scripture, there are only two ways to be saved from Hell: 1) Keep the commandments of God perfectly or 2) Admit that you have broken God commandments and that you are a sinner in need of a pardon and salvation. You must repent of your sin and call upon the Lord Jesus Christ to save you. What is your plea, Guilty or Not Guilty? Please be wise, and Settle out of Court. The only way to escape the Judgment of Almighty God is to take His Son, Jesus Christ, as your Pardon and Payment for sin against God. What will you do with Jesus? If you reject Jesus and despise God's love, one day Death will arrest you, the Law of God will condemn you, and God will sentence you to Hell.
Remember that the Law of God demands absolute sinless perfection from you in order to Heaven. You have no excuse for sinning against God, because you have a conscience with of work of God's law written on it to guide you concerning right and wrong. God is "Holy and Just" and He will make sure absolute justice is done.
Being sorry for your sin or doing good works will not save you from the Judgment of God. Your good works may be commendable, but they will never deliver you from the wrath of God (Rejecting Jesus Christ is the 'worst sin' a person can commit). If you are found to be guilty (and we are all guilty), according to the Bible you will end up in Hell. All you can do is throw yourself on the MERCY of the Judge . . . and the Bible tells us that God is rich in Mercy. It is not God's will that you go to Hell. God provided a way for you to be Pardoned and Forgiven.
God SO loved you that He sent His Son to take your punishment: "God commendeth (proved) His love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us." Then Jesus rose from the dead the third day and defeated death. If you will repent (turn away from your own righteousness and love for sinning) and trust to the Lord Jesus Christ, God will forgive you and give you everlasting life. It's as simple as this: we broke God's Law, and Jesus paid our fine. You cannot earn this Free Pardon from sin. If you repent and trust Jesus Christ's Precious Blood, you are free to leave the Courtroom - your CASE WILL BE DISMISSED! Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners. Whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. Ye must be born again. Please don't turn JESUS away today - Trust Him before it's too late!

A Little Truth (4)
Faith is the sustaining divine Strength given to us freely by the Holy Spirit to enable us to do His will joyfully through trials, difficulties, sufferings and labors. If you are distracted and bewildered, and have almost lost your senses, murmuring against God, it is time to ask for more Faith from God the Holy Spirit. Faith is like the hair of Samson, where our Strength resides; we must not let the flesh or this world rid us of our Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.
Faith should never be used to justify idleness. If you just loaf and be lazy and irresponsible, and say, "The LORD will provide," with that careless attitude, the LORD will provide you with an empty stomach, bankruptcy, foreclosure, repossession, and the like. The God of Heaven never promised in the Bible to provide for idle slackers or lazy, presumptuous loafers. Do nothing good-for-nothings try to use Faith (I'm just going to trust God and live by faith) as an excuse for you to be burdened to pay their bills for them.
Faith sustains us while we are under trials and through sorrows. Faith is the root, prayer is the branch, and love is the fruit. Faith is reliance, dependence, trust, and recumbence on the Savior. In the matter of eternal Salvation and the Safety of your soul, "None but Jesus" must be your motto. Keep close to this for other foundation can no man lay than that which is laid, Jesus Christ the Righteous. Rest only on the Finished Work of God Incarnate, and put all your reliance upon Him as crucified and risen from the dead. Rely upon the indwelling power of the Holy Ghost in your fight against your sins. Firmly fix your trust on the Lamb of God. The coming to Jesus which saves the soul is a simple reliance upon His Precious Blood. Speak well of Jesus' name, sound out His glory, be obedient to His will.
Dependence upon Christ Jesus leads to a lower esteem of yourself and a forsaking of self-righteousness. What better Person can a sinner trust his soul with than the Lord Jesus Christ Himself? Faith that comes from God leads to a simplicity of dependence upon the divine power of the Holy Spirit, a singleness of eye in serving and pleasing the LORD, and a constant expectation that God will act and work on our behalf. Lean upon Jesus with all your heart, cast all the weight of your spiritual struggling, wrestling, and growth upon Him. Depend upon the Lord Jesus for the free pardon of sin and your continued growth in grace. Look to Jesus' Blood for Justification as well as Sanctification -- Jesus' Blood is the Pardoner and the Purifier of our souls. His atoning blood puts away both the guilt and reigning power of sin.
Folly, unbelief, love of sin, and rebellion will ruin and damn your soul. If your sorrow is a regret for sinning against God and a hatred for your sins, that sorrow came from the Holy Spirit. The worst state you could be in is when you enjoy committing sin against God. Sin will only die at the Cross under the Precious Blood of the Son of God. Holy Ghost, please give me more and more Repentance. Lord Jesus, I have remembered You, please remember me.
Trust to the dear wounds of the Lamb of God, and the eternal merit of His Blood. The more you love Jesus, the more you will hate your sins. Your Salvation will never depend upon what you've done or will do, but only upon what the Lamb of God did when He offered up Himself at the Cross as a sinless Sacrifice for human sin. The Great Substitute of Calvary bore your sins and suffered the eternal penalty due to your sins. The way of Salvation is a simple trust, a sincere dependence, a hearty reliance upon Christ Jesus; who is Emmanuel, God with us. Christ Jesus is my Salvation; I depend alone on Him for eternal life and the forgiveness of my sins. Life is very short, spend time pleasing the Lord Jesus Christ.
The Finished Work of Jesus Christ on Calvary's Cross is the death of all self-righteousness. If self-righteousness is any of your reliance, your soul will surely perish. Heartily, savingly, trustfully, sincerely believe in Jesus' Precious Blood. The ground and sole cause of a sinner's acceptance with God is faith in the Finished Work of Christ Jesus. Faith in Jesus' Blood is the root of saving grace. The faith that saves the lost soul is a simple trusting, a heart belief that the the Lord Jesus Christ, God manifest in the flesh, and His offering of a full Blood Atonement for human sin.
Look now to Jesus as your Substitute and Eternal Life will immediately and freely come to you. Trust Jesus more and more. The saving work within the soul of a man is entirely done by the Holy Spirit. Quickening is only accomplished by the divine power of the Spirit of God. Every man must be born again of the Spirit; the initiation of Salvation is completely dependent upon the Holy Spirit. Jesus said, "Without Me ye can do nothing." True Repentance and Genuine Faith comes from above via the Holy Spirit. Practical obedience to Christ Jesus and His words is the cure for all your doubts and fears. If you want your doubts to die, you must let the grace of God kill your sins. Disobedience always leads to doubt and despondency.
Christianity is a matter of common, everyday life; it is not just a thing for Sundays, or certain times and places. No, Christianity is for all times and places, and all conditions and concerns in this life. Religion is only for certain days and places. It is the LORD, let Him do what seemeth Him good.
Faith should never be used to justify idleness. If you just loaf and be lazy and irresponsible, and say, "The LORD will provide," with that careless attitude, the LORD will provide you with an empty stomach, bankruptcy, foreclosure, repossession, and the like.

The Poor in Spirit
Jesus said these words first in the Sermon on the Mount, "Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven." Being poor in spirit is the very first and most important work of the Holy Spirit in the heart of a sinner. This is the very first lowly rung on the sacred golden ladder to New Jerusalem. You see, a man must be made poor in spirit, before he will ever seek the Savior. Only the poor in spirit, those who have no money spiritually, will come to the Cross and be made rich from the hand of the Crucified Creator. The poor in spirit are always needing a Heavenly Handout from the merciful Mediator. The only reason any man may think he can help save himself from sin is simply because the Holy Spirit's work has yet to make him poor in spirit.
As the surgeon seeks for the sick in body, and as the alms-giver looks for the poor man, even so the Savior seeks out those poor souls that need Him, and upon them He bestows His goodness and mercy (the instantaneous forgiveness of sins, and irreversible eternal life). The Lord Jesus' eyes of compassion and favor rest only upon hearts that are broken and spirits which are humbled before Him at the bloody Cross of Calvary.
The poor in spirit have no means spiritually to make it through this world on their own. You must be emptied of self-esteem before you will ever be filled with the Holy Spirit. Not what you have, but what you have not, will be the first contact between your soul and Jesus Christ, God manifest in the flesh. The self-righteous bring their goodness to the Cross, and the religionist brings his ordinances, ceremonies, and sacraments to Calvary; but they are all turned away, because they are trying to save themselves. There is none righteous, no, not one. The poor in spirit come to Jesus with their utter destitution and soul distress, and He accepts them at once. The unregenerate man spiritual statue is dire penury having nothing to offer but his own sins and guilt. A poor man must be willing to beg, or he will die in his impoverished state. The poor man is totally dependent upon charity.
Have you ever been made poor in spirit by the Spirit of God? The divine law of God convinces us of our moral and spiritual poverty by showing us how sinful we are in thought, word and deed on a daily basis. The working of the law tears away our imaginary wealth of self-righteousness, shows us our awful sin debt, and brings us to self-despair. You discover you do not have a single penny of goodness in your pocket. How poor are they that think themselves rich in spirit, and how rich are they that see themselves to be poor in spirit! You must save your life by losing it, and you can only be made rich by first becoming poor. The natural man toys with religion, but he puts the Gospel out of his mind and practically avoids and ignores it due to his love for sin. This is the Gospel paradox that confounds the carnal mind. Believe it or not, your highest attainment spiritually is to be poor in spirit.
Poverty in spirit is the doorstep to Heaven - that is, a humble view of yourself, and a high view of Christ Jesus. You must first see your wants before you will perceive the Savior's unsearchable wealth and beauty. By nature, all of us are poor in purity, truth, faith and love to God. The Holy Spirit must first make you conscious of your great spiritual need. You should be seeking this spiritual poverty much more than any earthly riches. Jesus will never be precious to you until you are sincerely poor in spirit. Pride blinds your eyes, but contriteness opens them. Your many deficiencies will lead you to Savior's infinite sufficiency. The smallest diamond is worth far more than the largest boulder.
Christ Jesus hath filled the poor in spirit with good things; and the rich He hath sent empty away. But I am poor and needy; yet the Lord thinketh upon me: make haste unto me, for thou art my Help and my Deliverer; make no tarrying, O my God. Jesus supplies my spiritual wants freely. For the Lord Jesus Christ shall save the needy soul when he crieth; the poor also, and him that hath no helper. He shall spare the poor and needy, and shall save the souls of the needy.
Bow down thine ear, O Lord Jesus Christ, hear me, my heart is wounded within me: for I am poor and needy. God raiseth up the poor out of the dust, and lifteth the needy out of the dunghill. But mine eyes are unto Thee, O LORD JESUS CHRIST: in Thee is my trust; leave not my soul destitute. For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though He was rich, yet for your sakes He became poor, that ye through His poverty might be rich. Have you ever been made poor in spirit by the Spirit of God?

Eternal Truths from Galatians
Christ Jesus gave Himself for our sins, that He might deliver us from this present evil world, according to the will of God and our Father: To Whom be glory for ever and ever.
Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the Faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the Faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.
I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the Faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave Himself for me. I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if Righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain.
Received ye the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of Faith?
For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse: for it is written, Cursed is every one that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them. No man is justified by the law in the sight of God, it is evident: for, The just shall live by Faith. The Scripture hath concluded all under sin, that the promise by Faith of Jesus Christ might be given to them that believe.
But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth His Son, made of a woman, made under the law, To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons.
Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh. For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.
The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. Let us not be desirous of vain glory, provoking one another, envying one another.
Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted. Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ. For if a man think himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceiveth himself.
Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting. And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.
But God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified unto me, and I unto the world.
Brethren, the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit. Amen.
